Los Angeles Car Accident Injures Five

By

Five people, including a 10-year-old boy, were injured in a Los Angeles car accident, which officials say, involved several vehicles. According to an NBC news report, the injury car accident occurred the afternoon of February 26, 2011 on the westbound 118 Freeway at Hayvenhurst Avenue. California Highway Patrol officials say multiple vehicles were involved, but did not say how many. One 10-year-old boy was transported to an area hospital with severe injuries to his leg. A 30-year-old woman and three children were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials are investigating the cause of this car accident.

I’m relieved to hear that the four victims are recovering from their injuries. My heart goes out to the boy who has sustained severe leg injuries. I wish him and the other victims the very best for a swift and full recovery. Please keep these injured victims in your thoughts and prayers.

Car Accidents in Los Angeles

According to CHP’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 268 fatalities and 25,588 injuries involving Los Angeles car accidents. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 667 people died and 52,228 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same year.

Possible Accident Causes

Based on this news report, officials are still looking into what caused this multi-vehicle collision. There are still more questions here than answers. Was this caused by a rear-end accident? Which one of the drivers triggered what appears to have been a chain-reaction accident? Was impairment, distracted driving, speed or recklessness a factor in this car accident? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and who was at fault.

Seeking Compensation in Multi-Car Accidents

In such cases, the at-fault driver could be held financially responsible for the injuries, damages and losses caused to victims. Injured victims can claim compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages.

An experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer will be able to better advise car accident victims about their legal rights and options. In any accident with multiple vehicles, it is important to remember that the investigation can get complex because such a case would often involve multiple victims, insurance companies and potentially, lawyers. It would be in the victims’ best interests to refrain from speaking with insurance adjusters or attorneys for the other parties or sign agreements without first consulting a lawyer. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free and comprehensive consultation to injured victims and their families.
