Dante Rouzan, 27, was seriously injured in an Orange County truck accident involving an out-of-control big rig. According to news reports, the serious injury accident occurred on westbound 91 Freeway near Glassell Street in Anaheim the night of April 12, 2011. California Highway Patrol officials say that a gravel truck driver was trapped inside the cab of his vehicle when an out-of-control 18-wheeler crashed into his vehicle. Rouzan had to be extricated from the truck and was hospitalized with major injuries. Officials are looking into what caused the big rig to go out of control.
My thoughts and prayers are with the critically injured victim of this Orange County truck accident. I wish him a complete and speedy recovery from his injuries.
Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 21 people were killed and 2,018 were injured in Anaheim car accidents. During that same year, there were 152 fatalities and 13,414 injuries reported due to Orange County car accident.
What Caused This Serious Injury Accident?
Based on news reports, it is not clear what caused the big rig to crash into the gravel truck. There are several unanswered questions here. Did the big rig lose its brakes? Was the driver of the large truck speeding or driving recklessly? Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction in the big rig, which may have caused or contributed to this incident? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine what occurred here and why.
If the driver of the 18-wheeler is determined to have been at fault, then the driver as well as his or her employer could be held liable for the injuries caused to Rouzan. If Rouzan was on the job at the time, he could receive workers compensation benefits from his employer. Injured victims in such cases may seek compensation for medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. An experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer should better advise injured victims and their families about their legal rights and options.
