Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Orange County Car Accident

By

A motorcyclist sustained major injuries in an Orange County car accident that happened during the early morning hours of June 10, 2011. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the major injury motorcycle versus car accident occurred in the westbound lanes of the 91 Freeway, near Coal Canyon, in Anaheim. The motorcyclist was treated at the scene and then transported to an area trauma center with major injuries. An investigation is ongoing.

My thoughts and prayers are with the injured motorcyclist following this Orange County motorcycle crash. I wish the injured victim the very best for a complete and speedy recovery.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), eight people were killed and 121 were injured in Anaheim motorcycle accidents. During that same year, there were 35 fatalities and 801 injuries reported due to motorcycle accidents in Orange County.

What Caused This Injury Crash?

The report gives no specifics as to how or why this collision occurred. One commenter on the newspaper’s web site stated that there is an area near Coal Canyon that is particularly dangerous. This area of roadway was described as an “edge trap” that could be unsafe for a motorcyclist during low visibility hours. I trust CHP investigators are also looking into whether this accident was caused by speeding or an unsafe lane change.

Liability Issues

If the driver of the car is determined to have been at fault, then, he or she can be held liable for the motorcyclist’s injuries. If a dangerous roadway is determined to have caused or contributed to the incident, the governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway can be held liable. Injured victims in such cases can seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages.

Victims would be well-advised to contact an experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all facets of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable. Under California Vehicle Code Section 911.2, any personal injury claim against a public entity must be filed within six months of the incident. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to car accident victims and their families.
