According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), eight people were killed and 121 were injured in Anaheim motorcycle accidents. During that same year, there were 35 fatalities and 801 injuries reported due to motorcycle accidents in Orange County.
What Caused This Injury Crash?
The report gives no specifics as to how or why this collision occurred. One commenter on the newspaper’s web site stated that there is an area near Coal Canyon that is particularly dangerous. This area of roadway was described as an “edge trap” that could be unsafe for a motorcyclist during low visibility hours. I trust CHP investigators are also looking into whether this accident was caused by speeding or an unsafe lane change.
If the driver of the car is determined to have been at fault, then, he or she can be held liable for the motorcyclist’s injuries. If a dangerous roadway is determined to have caused or contributed to the incident, the governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway can be held liable. Injured victims in such cases can seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages.
