Three Injured in Orange County Car Accident

A 51-year-old driver and two passengers, ages 4 and 10, suffered critical injuries in an Orange County car accident involving a Honda Civic veering off the roadway. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the serious injury accident occurred off the 405 Freeway in Irvine, the afternoon of June 20, 2011. It is not clear what caused the car to leave the roadway. Firefighters had to extricate two of the injured victims. All three appear to have suffered traumatic injuries. An investigation is ongoing to determine what caused the crash and if another motorist was involved.

My thoughts and prayers are with the three injured victims of this terrible car accident. I wish them all a complete and speedy recovery.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), five people were killed and 840 were injured in Irvine car accidents. During that same year, there were 152 fatalities and 13,414 injuries reported involving Orange County car accidents.

What Caused This Car Accident?

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of this serious injury accident. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of another motorist being involved in the crash. If another driver forced the Honda off the roadway, the at-fault motorist may be held liable for the injuries caused, as well as face serious charges for leaving the scene of the crash. California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.” I trust officials are also looking into whether an auto defect or mechanical malfunction may have played a part in this crash.

Liability Issues

The outcome of the investigation here should have a significant impact on how the injured victims can pursue financial compensation. Car accident victims would be well-advised to contact a reputedOrange County personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and make sure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. It would also be a good idea to preserve the vehicle in its current, crashed state so an expert can thoroughly examine it for product defects, malfunctions and other evidence.
