Ventura Car Accident Proves Fatal

By

Jonathan Shiebler, 50, was killed in a Ventura car accident involving two pickup trucks. According to a news report in The Ventura County Star, the fatal car crash occurred at the intersection of Championship Drive and Walnut Canyon Road in Moorpark, the night of July 24, 2011. It is not clear yet what may have caused the two pickup trucks to collide at the intersection. Shiebler was pronounced dead at the accident scene, while the 60-year-old Moorpark man who survived the crash was hospitalized after being extricated from his vehicle. An investigation is ongoing.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Jonathan Shiebler following this tragic street intersection car accident. My thoughts and prayers are also with the other driver injured in this crash. Please keep these victims and their families in your thoughts and prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), one person was killed and 123 were injured in Moorpark car accidents. During that same year, there were 57 fatalities and 3,421 injuries reported involving Ventura County car accidents.

What Caused This Fatal Crash

It is not clear what caused this tragic car accident. Drivers on Championship Drive have a stop sign and they must yield to traffic on Walnut Canyon Road. It will have to be determined if one of the drivers failed to stop at the stop sign here. It is also possible that one of the drivers attempted to make a turn without properly yielding the right of way at the intersection.

California law requires drivers to come to a complete stop at a stop sign and proceed with caution. According to California Vehicle Code Section 21802 (a): “The driver of any vehicle approaching a stop sign at the entrance to, or within, an intersection shall stop as required by Section 22450. The driver shall then yield the right-of-way to any vehicles which have approached from another highway, or which are approaching so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to those vehicles until he or she can proceed with reasonable safety.”

Liability Issues

The family of a victim killed in a Ventura County car accident may pursue financial compensation for their loss by filing a wrongful death claim. In such cases, injured victims or their families would be well-advised to contact an experienced Ventura personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all facets of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable.

That truck saved my friend’s life. Considering that he was struck by another truck, he may not have survived had he been driving a car
