Two Injured in Los Angeles Car Accident

By

Savino Pilarski, 39, and Roy Sekerez, 48, were both injured in a Los Angeles car accident after their pickup trucks collided head-on. According to a news report in The Signal, the serious injury accident occurred on Vasquez Canyon Road in Santa Clarita, the morning of September 7, 2011. Officials say Pilarski let his 1997 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck drift off the roadway before overcorrecting and turning into oncoming traffic and striking Sekerez’s Ford F-150 pickup truck head-on. One of the drivers was ejected from his truck. Pilarski sustained major injuries and Sekerez suffered moderate injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

My thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this Los Angeles County car accident. I wish them both a complete and speedy recovery.

Los Angeles Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), six people were killed and 592 were injured in Santa Clarita car accidents. During that same year, there were 554 fatalities and 50,817 injuries reported involving Los Angeles County car accidents.

What Caused This Head-On Collision?

Based on this news report, it appears that Pilarski turned into oncoming traffic. However, it is not clear how or why that occurred. Was he under the influence? Was he distracted by something? Was he fatigued or falling asleep at the wheel? California Vehicle Code Section 21651 (a) states: “Whenever a highway has been divided into two or more roadways by means of intermittent barriers or by means of a dividing section of not less than two feet in width, either unpaved or delineated by curbs, double-parallel lines, or other markings on the roadway, it is unlawful…to drive any vehicle over, upon, or across the dividing section.”
