A 19-year-old man suffered serious injuries in a La Mirada car accident, which officials say, was caused by a driver making an unsafe left turn. According to a report in The Whittier Daily News, the injury collision occurred at the intersection of Plantana and Gagely drives in La Mirada, the evening of October 25, 2011. Police say a 2007 Honda Accord sedan heading east on Plantana Drive made a left turn at Gagely Drive hitting a 50cc scooter that was westbound on Plantana. The rider suffered a broken arm and was taken to a local hospital. An investigation is ongoing.
My heart goes out to the injured victim of this crash. I wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Based on this news report, officials say this car versus scooter accident occurred because the driver of the Honda made an unsafe left turn and failed to yield the right-of-way to the oncoming vehicle. California Vehicle Code Section 21801 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to the approaching vehicles until the left turn or U-turn can be made with reasonable safety.”
Fault and Liability
If the driver of the Honda is determined to have been at fault here, he or she can be held liable for the victim’s injuries and damages. Victims in such cases can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, physical therapy, and other related damages.
