School Administrator Killed in Riverside Car Accident

By

Jason Moscowitz, a 37-year-old veteran of Lake Elsinore and Corona-Norco schools, was killed in a Riverside car accident after his Honda Civic collided with a Toyota Celica being driven by an 18-year-old student. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the fatal car accident occurred at the intersection of Sanderson Avenue and Mustang Way in Hemet, the evening of October 27, 2011. Officials have not stated who was at fault for this collision. The accident resulted in the Civic rolling over and crashing into a traffic signal pole. Moscowitz succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.

My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Jason Moscowitz for their devastating loss. He was apparently a beloved school administrator. Tragic! Please keep this grieving family in your thoughts and prayers.

Riverside Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), five people were killed and 335 injured in Hemet car accidents. During that same year, 203 fatalities and 7,974 injuries occurred involving Riverside County car accidents.

What Caused This Fatal Injury Car Accident?

Based on this news report, it appears that the intersection where this accident occurred is monitored by traffic lights. It is unclear whether one of the motorists failed to obey a red light or yield right-of-way. There are several other questions here as well. Was speed a factor in the crash? Was one of the drivers careless or distracted? Was any other form of negligence a factor in this terrible car accident? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

California Vehicle Code Section 21453 (a) states: “A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown.”

Liability Issues

If the teen driver is determined to have been at fault, he or she can be held liable for Moscowitz’s wrongful death. In cases where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, the family of a deceased car accident victim can seek compensation to cover damages including medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income, loss of love and companionship, and other related damages. Victims’ families would be well advised to contact an experienced Riverside personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.
