Ventura Hit-and-Run Car Accident Injures Pedestrian

By

A 40-year-old woman was seriously injured in a Ventura car accident after she was struck in an alley by a vehicle, whose driver left the scene. According to a news report in The Ventura County Star, the injury hit-and-run collision occurred early morning on October 11, 2011 in an alley east of the 100 block of Ash Street. The woman told police she was walking in the alley when she heard a vehicle behind her and then was thrown to the ground. The vehicle then ran her over and left the scene. The woman suffered a broken jaw, broken arm, several cuts and bruises. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ventura police officials at 805-339-4416 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

I sympathize with the injured victim of this horrific hit-and-run car accident. I sincerely hope her injuries are not life-threatening. I wish her the very best for a quick and full recovery.

Ventura Pedestrian Accidents

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), two people died and 33 were injured due to pedestrian accidents in Ventura. Countywide, pedestrian accidents claimed 10 lives and caused 196 injuries, during the same year.

Leaving the Scene of a Crash

Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the vehicle not only mowed down this woman and seriously injured her, but also left her lying in a dark alley with broken bones and other injuries. Appalling! Not only is leaving the scene of an injury crash inhumane and irresponsible, but it is also illegal.

California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.”

Holding Wrongdoers Accountable

I trust officials are able to quickly apprehend this driver and bring him or her to justice. If you witnessed this collision or have any information about the driver, please visit our web site at www.hitandrunreward.com to offer an anonymous tip and also become eligible to receive a $1,000 reward.

Injured victims of hit-and-run accidents would be well-advised to contact an experienced Ventura personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. A skilled car accident lawyer will also inform victims about how their own car insurance policy applies to an incident where the hit-and-run driver is not found, or, in a case where the at-fault motorist is uninsured or underinsured.
