Victorville Hit-and-Run Car Accident Injures Woman

By

A 19-year-old woman was injured in a Victorville car accident, which officials say, involved a hit-and-run driver. According to a news report in The San Bernardino County Sun, the injury collision occurred the evening of October 17, 2011 near the corner of Hesperia and Hughes roads. Officials say the woman was pushing a stroller with her 1-year-old son, when a dark, four-door vehicle sideswiped her. The woman was transported to a local hospital with a leg injury. The child had a scrape to his head, but no other apparent injuries. The driver fled the scene of the crash. Anyone with information about this hit-and-run crash is asked to call the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Victorville Station at 760-241-2911.

My heart goes out to the mother and son who were injured in this hit-and-run accident. I wish them the very best for a quick and complete recovery. They will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Pedestrian Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were two fatalities and 18 injuries involving pedestrian accidents in Victorville. In San Bernardino County as a whole, 39 people died and 440 were injured due to pedestrian accidents in 2009.

Leaving the Scene of a Crash

Based on this news report, it appears that the mother was pushing her child in a stroller and was struck by the vehicle near the intersection. The driver fled without stopping to help the injured mother or her young child. What kind of a person would leave a young woman and her toddler son injured and on the roadway without stopping or offering help? Unconscionable!

Leaving the scene of an injury collision is not only inhumane and irresponsible, but it is also illegal. California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.”
