Anyone who saw this crash or who may have information about the suspect and vehicle is asked to contact California Highway Patrol’s South Los Angeles office at 310-516-3355.
My heart goes out to this seriously injured hit-and-run car accident victim and his family for what they are going through at this time. I wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.
Pedestrian Accident Statistics
According to CHP’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were three fatalities and 35 injuries involving pedestrian accidents in Compton. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 179 people died and 4,918 were injured due to pedestrian accidents, during that same year.
Leaving the Scene of a Crash
Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the sedan struck, seriously injured the pedestrian and then left him lying on the roadway without care or medical attention. Despicable! Not only is leaving the scene of a crash an unconscionable act, but it is also against the law. Motorists are required to stop and remain at the scene until authorities arrive. In addition, they must exchange pertinent information with the other parties and most importantly, assist the injured victim. This could be as simple as picking up a cell phone and calling 911 so the victim can immediately receive the medical attention he or she needs.
