Actress Killed in Los Angeles Hit-and-Run Car Accident

By

Actress and dancer Zina Feeley, 66, also known as Zina Bethune, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident involving a hit-and-run driver. According to an ABC 7 News Report, the fatal accident occurred along Forest Lawn Drive in Griffith Park on February 12, 2012. Officials say Bethune stopped her car and walked on to the roadway to help a wounded animal that was in an eastbound lane when a vehicle struck her. She was then hit by a second vehicle. One of the motorists failed to remain at the scene. Officials are searching for the driver of a white car that fled this collision.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Zina Bethune following this tragic hit-and-run car accident. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Los Angeles Pedestrian Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 82 people were killed and 2,630 were injured in pedestrian accidents in the city of Los Angeles. Countywide, there were 179 fatalities and 4,918 injuries reported due to pedestrian accidents, during the same year.

Hit-and-Run Accidents

Based on this news report, Bethune was attempting to help an injured animal when a car struck her. While she may have been in the roadway at the time, it is absolutely unacceptable that one of the drivers fled the crash site and left this critically injured victim. Not only is it unconscionable to leave the scene of an injury crash, but it is also illegal.

California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.”

Holding Hit-and-Run Drivers Accountable

Officials are searching for the driver of the white vehicle involved in this incident. If you have any information about this accident, please visit our web site, www.hitandrunreward.com. Our site allows witnesses to provide an anonymous tip and become eligible to receive a $1,000 reward. This web site is a part of our effort to partner with the community and help hold such negligent drivers responsible.

The family of a deceased hit-and-run victim would be well advised to speak with an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. A skilled car accident attorney will better inform families in such cases about how their own auto insurance policy applies to an incident where the suspect is not found, or, in a crash where the at-fault motorist is uninsured or underinsured.
