Woman Injured in Irvine Car Accident

By

A female driver suffered injuries in an Irvine car accident after another vehicle struck her car. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury crash occurred in the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway near Bake Parkway, the morning of May 24, 2012. California Highway Patrol officials say a Honda was trying to get around another vehicle and collided with the victim’s Toyota Prius. The Prius, which was in the number one lane, ended up going over the right side and into a ditch. The driver of the Prius was transported to an area hospital. The nature and extent of her injuries is not known.

My thoughts and prayers are with the injured victim of this Orange County car accident. I wish her the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Car Accident Statistics

According to CHP’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), car accidents in Irvine caused 14 fatalities and injured 871 people. During the same year, 141 people died and 13,373 were injured due to Orange County car accidents.

What Caused This Crash?

Based on this news account, it appears that the driver of the Honda struck the Prius while trying to get around another vehicle. It is not clear if the Honda’s driver made an unsafe lane change thereby causing the accident. California Vehicle Code Section 21658 (a) states that whenever a roadway has been divided into two or more clearly marked lanes for traffic in one direction the vehicle “shall be driven as nearly as practical entirely within a single lane and shall not be moved from the lane until such movement can be made with reasonable safety.”

Fault and Liability

If the driver of the Honda is determined to have been at fault, then, he or she can be held liable for the victim’s injuries and damages here. Injured victims in such cases can seek compensation to cover damages such as medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and pain and suffering. Car accident victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Irvine personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to injured victims and their families.
