Two Women Critically Injured in Huntington Beach Car Accident

By

Two women suffered major injuries in a Huntington Beach traffic accident the morning of June 27, 2012. According to a news article in The Orange County Register, the injury crash occurred at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Yorktown Avenue. Police say a 43-year-old female driver of a Toyota Sequoia collided with a 2001 Saturn sedan. Both vehicles were traveling east on Yorktown Avenue. Two women, ages 79 and 47, were in the Saturn and were transported to UCI Medical Center with critical injuries. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to contact investigators at 714-536-5670.

My thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this car accident. I wish them the very best for a quick and complete recovery.

Collision Statistics

There were 13 fatalities and 993 injuries involving Huntington Beach car accidents in 2009, according to California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). During the same year, 141 people died and 13,373 were injured as a result of Orange County traffic collisions.

What Caused This Crash?

Based on this news report, it appears that both vehicles were traveling in the same direction past that intersection. It is not clear what caused the vehicles to collide. Did the driver of the Toyota rear-end the Saturn? Was this accident the result of an unsafe lane change? Did speed, driver distraction or inattention lead to this collision? Did alcohol or drugs play a part? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

Fault and Liability

If the driver of the Toyota is determined to have been at fault, she can be held liable for the injuries and damages caused. If the Saturn’s driver is determined to have been at fault here, she could be held liable for her passenger’s injuries. In such cases, injured victims can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. Car accident victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Huntington Beach car accident lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to injured victims and their families.
