Motorcyclist Injured in Fullerton Car Accident

By

A motorcyclist was injured in a Fullerton car accident after crashing into the back of a Dodge van. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the motorcycle accident occurred at the intersection of Raymond and Orangethorpe avenues in Fullerton the morning of July 10, 2012. Officials say the eastbound Dodge van slowed to pull into a convenience store parking lot when the motorcycle crashed into the back of the van. The victim complained of pain to his abdomen and was taken to a nearby hospital. It is not clear if either driver will be cited for the crash.

My thoughts and prayers are with the motorcyclist who has been injured in this Orange County car accident. I wish him the very best for a complete and speedy recovery.

Orange County Motorcycle Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were no fatalities, but 34 injuries involving Fullerton motorcycle accidents in 2009. During that same year, there were 17 fatalities and 735 injuries reported due to Orange County motorcycle crashes.

What Caused This Injury Accident?

There are a number of questions that have not been answered in this news report. How quickly did the Dodge van decelerate? Does the van have working brake lights? Did the driver of the van use a turn signal? Did the accident occur on a curve or other location where visibility may have been limited? Did the motorcyclist have a reasonable amount of time to avoid the collision? Was either driver speeding, distracted or otherwise negligent? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

Liability Issues

In this particular case, if the driver is determined to have been at fault, he or she can be held liable for the motorcyclist’s injuries. Injured victims in such cases can seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, loss of wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering and emotional distress. Victims would also be well advised to contact an experienced personal injury attorney in Orange County who will stay abreast of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to injured victims and their families.
