Freeway Crash in Ontario Proves Fatal for Woman and Child

By

Davidea Farber, 22, and Adriana Zenteno, 4, were killed in an Ontario car accident after their stopped vehicle was rear-ended by a U-Haul truck. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the fatal car crash occurred the night of August 4, 2012 along Highway 60 near Vineyard Avenue south of the Ontario International Airport. The incident began when Farber stopped her 1998 Mercury for an unknown reason in a westbound traffic lane. Farber stepped out of her car. The U-Haul struck the Mercury from behind, which threw Farber into the roadway. The 4-year-old girl, Adriana, died at the scene. She had been restrained in a car seat. An investigation is ongoing.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Davidea Farber and Adriana Zenteno for their tragic and heartbreaking losses. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Car Crash Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 16 fatalities and 1,049 injuries involving car accidents in Ontario in 2009. Also, during the same year, 223 people died and 7,870 were injured due to car crashes in San Bernardino County.

What Caused This Fatal Crash?

Based on this news report, it appears that the U-Haul truck struck Farber’s vehicle from behind. There are several unanswered questions here. Why did Farber stop the vehicle in traffic lanes? Did the vehicle stall? Why was the U-Haul truck unable to stop in time to avoid the collision? Was the driver of the truck under the influence, fatigued, speeding or otherwise negligent at the time? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

Liability Issues

If the truck’s driver is determined to have been at fault, he or she can be held liable for the victims’ wrongful death. If the driver was on the job at the time, his or her employer can also be held liable. Families of deceased victims can seek compensation to cover damages including medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income and loss of love and companionship. An experienced San Bernardino personal injury lawyer will be able to advise families in such cases about their legal rights and options.
