Yorba Linda Couple Killed in Car Accident

By

Amar Jain, 74, and Cheryl Jain, 66, of Yorba Linda were fatally injured in a Temecula car accident after the vehicle in which they were traveling was struck by a suspected red light runner. According to a news account in The Orange County Register, the collision occurred the afternoon of October 20, 2012 at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Rancho California Road. Police say a 2006 Hyundai traveling west on Rancho California ran a red light and struck the couple’s 2008 Honda CR-V. Both Amar and Cheryl Jain sustained major injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the Hyundai, identified as Christopher Bostic of Temecula, also suffered major injuries. No arrests have been made pending the official investigation.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Amar and Cheryl Jain for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Car Crash Statistics

There was one fatality and 38 injuries involving Temecula car accidents in 2010, according to California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). In Riverside County as a whole, 190 people died and 7,632 were injured due to car accidents during the same year.

Possible Red Light Violation

Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the Hyundai ran a red light and hit the Jains’ Honda CR-V as it was making a left turn from Jefferson onto Rancho California. Running a red light is a serious traffic violation under California law. California Vehicle Code Section 21453 (a) states: “A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown.”

Wrongful Death Claims

I trust officials are still looking into how or why this tragic accident occurred and if the driver of the Hyundai was at fault. In cases where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, families of deceased victims can file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income, loss of love and companionship and other related damages. An experienced Riverside personal injury lawyer will be able to better advise injured victims and their families in such cases about their legal rights and options.
