Two people were killed and five others were injured in an Irvine car accident, which involved a number of vehicles. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal crash occurred in the northbound lanes of the Interstate 5 between the Jeffrey Road and Culver Driver exits, early morning on April 24, 2014. Orange County Fire Authority officials said two people were pronounced dead that the scene. The crash involved five vehicles that were in a chain-reaction collision spread over more than 100 yards of the freeway.

Details of the Chain Reaction Crash

California Highway Patrol officials said the initial crash involved a Mitsubishi Mirage colliding with the center divider. This led to a chain reaction crash where other vehicles collided with one another. Although the investigation is still ongoing, officials believe the driver of an Acura stopped to help the driver of the Mitsubishi that had become disabled in the carpool lane.

Shortly afterward, a Toyota Camry clipped the Mitsubishi sending the Camry into the right side of the freeway and into a silver Nissan Altima. The Camry also collided with a Chevy Astro van. The two occupants of the Camry died at the scene. Of the five injured, three were taken to the hospital with traumatic injuries.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family members of the two deceased victims. I also wish the injured victims the very best for a quick and full recovery.

Fault and Liability

It will likely take some time for the investigation to be completed and the final determination to be made. In such cases, it is important that injured victims and families of deceased victims refrain from talking to insurance adjusters or attorneys for other parties until they have discussed the details of their case with an experienced Irvine personal injury lawyer. It is also advisable that victims or families do not sign any agreements or paperwork authorizing release of information. It is important to discuss the case with your own lawyer who will help ensure that your rights and best interests are protected.
