Motorcyclist Killed In Newport Beach Collision

Dwight Palmer, 55, was killed in a Newport Beach motorcycle accident.

According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal collision occurred the morning of July 14, 2014 near the intersection of East Coast Highway and Reef Point Drive.

Palmer, a Mission Viejo resident, was traveling west on East Coast Highway when his motorcycle
collided with another vehicle. He suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was not injured. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact Investigator Eric little at 949-644-3746.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2011 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were two fatalities and 18 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in Newport Beach. In Orange County as a whole, 18 people died and 796 were injured due to motorcycle collisions during the same year.

What Caused This Fatal Crash?

Based on this news report, it appears that the motorcyclist was westbound on East Coast Highway. However, it is unclear as to how or why the collision occurred. The direction in which the other vehicle was traveling is not known.
