Newport Coast Crash Proves Fatal For Woman

By

Karine Bondra, 46, was killed in a Newport Beach car accident the night of July 23, 2014.

According to a news report in Corona del Mar Today, the fatal car accident occurred when Bondra was driving south on Newport Coast Drive near Pelican Hill Road South.

Officials say her silver Honda crossed over the center divider and rolled over.

Bondra was ejected from the vehicle and
suffered fatal injuries. She was an Irvine resident and a teacher in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District, officials said. Police are looking into what caused the accident and are not ruling out excessive speed as a factor.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family members and friends of Karine Bondra for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2011 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were five fatalities and 398 injuries reported as a result of car accidents in Newport Beach.

In Orange County as a whole, 128 people died and 13,541 were injured due to traffic collisions during the same year.

What Caused This Fatal Crash?

Based on this news report, it appears that the victim lost control of the Honda. The article also states that she was ejected on impact. There are still several unanswered questions here. What caused Bondra to lose control of the Honda? Was excessive speed a factor, as officials suspect? Were alcohol or drugs a factor? Did a vehicle defect or a mechanical malfunction cause Bondra to lose control of the Honda?

Was there a dangerous or defective condition on the roadway, which may have caused or contributed to the incident? Was Bondra buckled up or was she ejected from the vehicle due to a defective seatbelt or seat restraint system? We trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what caused this tragic crash.

Liability Issues

In this particular case, it would be important for the victim’s family to preserve the vehicle in its current condition, unaltered, to determine whether a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction caused the accident.

If that was the case the automaker can be held liable for the victim’s wrongful death. In this case, it would also be critical to examine the seat restraint system to determine if it was defective.

If a dangerous roadway condition caused the crash, the governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway can also be held liable.

An experienced Newport Beach personal injury lawyer will be able to advise victims’ families about filing a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for damages such as medical and funeral costs, lost future income, pain and suffering and loss of companionship.
