Orange County Woman Killed In Diamond Bar Car Accident

By

Juana Gutierrez-Gomez, 50, of Fullerton sustained fatal injuries in a car accident in Diamond Bar the afternoon of February 16, 2015.

According to a City News Service report, the crash occurred on the northbound 57 Freeway just north of Diamond Bar Boulevard.

California Highway Patrol officials say
the Toyota in which Gutierrez-Gomez was a passenger had slowed in heavy traffic when it was rear-ended by a Ford.

Another woman riding in the Toyota suffered major injuries and was hospitalized, officials said. The man driving the Toyota along with a female passenger suffered moderate injuries and the Ford’s driver sustained relatively minor injuries. A Lexus was also involved, but no one in that vehicle was injured. The investigation is ongoing.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family members and friends of Juana Gutierrez-Gomez for their terrible loss. We also wish the injured victims the very best for a quick and full recovery.

Crash Statistics

According to CHP’s 2012 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), one person died and 319 were injured in traffic accidents in Diamond Bar. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 585 fatalities and 50,622 injuries were reported due to car accidents during the same year.

What Caused This Fatal Crash?

Based on this news report, it appears that this was a rear-end collision. It seems from this report that the driver of the Ford did not slow down in time to avoid a collision with slowing traffic ahead. I trust investigators are looking into what caused the rear-end collision.

Was the driver distracted? Did alcohol or drugs play a part? Was the driver of the Ford operating at an excessive or unsafe speed given the traffic conditions? Did all the safety features in the vehicles, such as airbags, seatbelts and seatbacks, work like they were supposed to work?

Fault and Liability

If the driver of the Ford is determined to have been at fault, he or she could be held liable for the injuries and damages caused.

In cases where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, families of deceased victims can file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for damages including medical and funeral costs, lost future income and loss of love and companionship.

An experienced Los Angeles car accident attorney will be able to analyze all aspects of an incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable for their actions.
