Orange County Motorcycle Accident Proves Fatal

By

Robert Baker, 70, was killed in an Orange County motorcycle accident after a vehicle struck him.

According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal collision occurred on Antonio Parkway near El Prado in Rancho Santa Margarita.

Officials say Baker was riding his motorcycle south on Antonio Parkway when he collided with the driver of a Toyota sedan who was trying to merge onto the road from El Prado.

Baker was transported to an area hospital where
he died from his injuries. The Toyota’s driver remained at the scene. Officials do not believe alcohol was a factor. The investigation is ongoing.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family members and friends of Robert Baker. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Motorcycle Crash Statistics

There were no fatalities, but two injuries reported as a result of motorcycle crashes in Rancho Santa Margarita in 2012, according to California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS).

During the same year, 23 people died and 934 were injured due to motorcycle collisions countywide.

What Caused This Crash?

Based on this news report it appears that the motorcyclist was trying to merge onto the roadway from Antonio Parkway, which is when the sedan struck him. There are still several unanswered questions here.

What caused this fatal collision? Was the driver at fault? Was the driver operating the vehicle at a high rate of speed? Was the driver distracted or fatigued at the time? Did the driver’s negligence contribute to the incident?

We trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely who or what caused this fatal collision.
