Fatal Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Accident in Inglewood

By

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a driver who was involved in a hit-and-run accident in Inglewood, which left a motorcyclist dead. According to an NBC Los Angeles news report, the fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Harvard and Florence avenues on February 5, 2016. Police say the car was headed north on Harvard Avenue when it pulled in front of the motorcycle, which was eastbound on Florence. The motorcyclist collided with the car.

The driver of the car did stop, but left without identifying himself or helping the injured man. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The hit-and-run driver is male, but no further personal description is available. Police are searching for a silver or white Jeep Liberty with a license plate containing “6TJ.” Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call detectives at 323-421-2500.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family members and friends of this deceased hit-and-run victim. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2013 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were no fatalities, but 10 injuries reported as a result of motorcycle accidents in Inglewood. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 105 people died and 3,509 were injured due to motorcycle accidents during the same year.

Leaving the Scene of a Crash

Based on this news report, it appears that the driver initially stopped at the scene, but later left without helping the critically injured motorcyclist. This is illegal under California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a), which required that all drivers stop and remain at the scene, exchange pertinent information with other parties involved and most importantly, help the injured at the scene. This driver, of course, chose to flee. Outrageous!

Families that have lost loved ones in hit-and-run crashes deal with significant financial and emotional burdens. While they figure out a way to deal with funeral and burial costs and lost income, they are also grappling with the lack of closure with regard to their loved one’s death. In such cases, an experienced Los Angeles hit-and-run lawyer can help victims identify potential sources of compensation so they receive some monetary support during these difficult times. If the driver is apprehended, he or she can be held liable for the significant losses caused.
