Fatal Bicycle Accident in Garden Grove

By

Eliseo Quiroz, 71, was killed in a Garden Grove bicycle accident after a car struck him the afternoon of July 3. The Orange County Register reports that the incident occurred in the 12700 block of Buaro Street. When officers arrived at the scene, Quiroz was trapped under a Hyundai Accent that had struck him. Officers and residents helped lift the vehicle and pull Quiroz out from underneath the car, which had crashed into two other parked vehicles.

Authorities began life-saving measures. Quiroz was transported to an area trauma center where he was pronounced dead shortly afterward. Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in this crash. The driver has not been cited or arrested pending an official investigation. Police say they hope to speak to the driver of a silver Ford Expedition who may have witnessed the incident. Anyone with more information is urged to contact Garden Grove police at 714-741-5823.

We offer our heartfelt condolences to the family members of Eliseo Quiroz for their tragic loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

What Caused This Crash?

Based on this news report, it is unclear as to how or why this fatal crash occurred. Police have said they do not suspect drugs or alcohol played a part here. There are still a number of unanswered questions here. Whose fault was the accident? Was the motorist distracted or inattentive at the time of the crash? Did he or she intrude into the bike lane or the shoulder and strike the bicyclist? Did excessive speed play a part in this fatal bicycle accident? We trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

Fault and Liability Issues

In such cases, the at-fault motorist can be held liable for the deceased victim’s wrongful death. A wrongful death lawsuit is typically brought by the family members of the deceased seeking damages for medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income, pain and suffering, and loss of love, care and companionship. Victims’ families in such cases would be well advised to contact an experienced Garden Grove personal injury lawyer who will stay abreast of the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.
