A 35-year-old man was killed in a bicycle accident, which officials say, involved a hit-and-run driver.
According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, the incident occurred the morning of October 15, 2015 at 39th Street and Vermont Avenue in Exposition Park.
Authorities pronounced the bicyclist dead at the scene. A preliminary investigation revealed a light-colored SUV struck the victim and fled before officers arrived at the scene.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family members and friends of the deceased bicyclist for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
LA Bicycle Accidents
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2013 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 17 fatalities and 2,342 injuries reported as a result of bicycle accidents in the city of Los Angeles. Countywide, 36 people died and 4,646 were injured due to bicycle accidents during the same year.
Leaving the Scene of an Accident
Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the SUV not only struck the bicyclist at the intersection, but also fled the scene without stopping to assist him. Outrageous! Not only is leaving the scene of a car accident inhumane and irresponsible, but it is also illegal.
California Vehicle Code 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.”
