Buena Park Pedestrian Accident Kills Woman

The man who struck and killed 23-year-old Isis Jennifer Sue Kelly near a Buena Park intersection on December 4, 2008, has turned himself in, The Orange County Register reports. The 12/4/08 fatal pedestrian versus auto accident occurred near the intersection of Beach Boulevard and La Palma Avenue when Salvador Sanchez Perez, 46, of Stanton, struck Kelly. Police say Kelly was not walking in a crosswalk when the Buena Park pedestrian accident occurred. Perez took off without stopping to render aid to Kelly, but a second driver who struck Kelly’s body stopped and called authorities.

Buena Park police were looking for the “hit-and-run driver” until Perez turned himself in a day after the accident. He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. Perez apparently has a valid driver’s license and insurance and told police he “panicked after the accident.”

My heart goes out to the family of young Isis Jennifer Sue Kelly, who was fatally injured in this horrific accident. For one day, they also had to agonize over a hit-and-run driver. Please keep this family in your prayers.

It is against California law to leave the scene of the accident. California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.” The same section of the code also states that the driver shall stop irrespective of whose fault the accident was. So in this case, even if the accident was not Perez’s fault, he will be criminally prosecuted for leaving the scene of the accident.

Buena Park police traffic investigators are still looking into how this accident occurred. Initial reports indicate that the “street was dark” at the time of the crash and Kelly was not in a crosswalk. Despite these facts, it would be in the best interest of Kelly’s family to consult with a reputed Orange County pedestrian accident lawyer and find out what their legal rights and options are in this case. A skilled personal injury lawyer will also look into other factors that may have played a part in this incident such as a dangerous condition on the roadway.

thank you for nice things you said. It feels like its ok to hit people because they aren’t useing the cross walk.. If he could have just stop she may have still lived.
