Burbank Car Accident Injures Three

Three pedestrians were injured in a Burbank car accident after an SUV veered into a bus stop. According to a CBS news report, the injury crash occurred on January 23, 2012 when the compact SUV jumped the sidewalk right in front of the Glenoaks Boulevard stop. One person was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. Two others suffered no-life-threatening injuries. Officials are still investigating the cause of this injury collision.

My heart goes out to the three injured victims of this car accident. I wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Pedestrian Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were no fatalities, but 32 injuries involving pedestrian accidents in Burbank. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 179 people died and 4,918 were injured in pedestrian accidents, during the same year.

What Caused This Crash?

Based on this news report, it is unclear as to what caused the driver of the compact SUV to lose control and hit the pedestrians. One witness told reporters that the vehicle hydroplaned and spun out of control. There are still several questions here. Was there a tire defect, improperly maintained tire, or auto defect in the SUV? Did impairment, distracted driving or inattention lead to this crash? Was the driver negligent or reckless in the any other way? Was the driver traveling too fast given the wet roadway?

California Vehicle Code Section 22350 (Basic Speed Law) states: “No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic and on surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.”

Fault and Liability

In this particular case, if the driver is determined to have been at fault, then, he or she can be held liable for the injuries and damages caused. Injured victims can seek compensation in such cases to cover damages such as medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation, and pain and suffering. Victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to car accident victims and their families.
