A bicyclist suffered injuries in a Newport Beach car accident after being struck by a vehicle in the beachside community of Corona del Mar. According to a news report in Corona del Mar Today, the injury collision occurred at the intersection of Harbor View Drive and Sea Lane. Witnesses told police that a Toyota Prius struck the cyclist who was traveling south on Sea Lane. The Prius was eastbound on Harbor View. The bicyclist was transported to a local trauma center for treatment after complaining of back pain. The bicyclist’s injuries were not life threatening.

A 17-year-old male bicyclist suffered critical injuries in a hit-and-run collision around midnight on July 7, 2013. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the major injury collision occurred on Riverside Drive east of Walker Avenue. Officials say the suspect vehicle was eastbound on Riverside Avenue when it collided with the teen’s bicycle. The driver fled the scene. Police are describing the vehicle as a dark-colored car with front-end damage. The teen was discovered lying in the street. Anyone with information about the vehicle or driver is asked to contact officials at 909-395-2902.

November 6, 2012-Buena Park, California-A man riding a bicycle in Buena Park was killed when he was struck by a vehicle, according to the Orange County Register. The accident took place at the intersection of Knott and LaPalma Avenues around 6:00 p.m. when an unidentified driver struck a 20-year-old cyclist. Both the driver and the cyclist were transported to hospitals with injuries. The driver had minor injuries, but the cyclist died as a result of the collision.

Two bicyclists were injured in separate traffic collisions, the night of September 25, 2012. According to a report in The Pasadena Star-News, the first collision was reported between a bicycle and a Toyota Scion at 5334 Angeles Crest Highway. The bicyclist, a 30-year-old Oregon man, suffered major injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Less than an hour after this incident occurred another bicyclist was injured in a separate crash involving a Nissan Maxima at 2236 Foothill Boulevard. The 31-year-old bicyclist in that case suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized as well. Neither driver was arrested or cited.

A 74-year-old bicyclist suffered major injuries in a San Diego truck accident after he was run over by a delivery truck in the Sports Arena area. According to a news report in U-T San Diego, the injury collision occurred just after noon on September 7, 2012 on westbound Sports Arena Boulevard near Rosecrans Street. A Dixieline truck, driven by a 41-year-old woman, made a right turn into the Dixieline store on Sports Arena. The woman failed to see the bicyclist and hit him, officials said. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital with a serious injury to his left leg. The investigation is ongoing.

A girl was injured in a Los Angeles County car accident after an SUV struck her bicycle. According to a report in The Pasadena Star-News, the injury collision occurred the morning of September 5, 2012 at the intersection of Laurel and Canon avenues in Sierra Madre. Police say the female driver of a small SUV was making a right turn from Laurel Avenue to Canon Avenue. She saw the bicyclist, but instead of hitting the brakes, she stepped on the gas, officials said. The girl was pinned under the bicycle and suffered several abrasions. The nature and extent of her injuries is not know. The driver of the SUV has not been cited pending the official investigation.

Thomas Stipicevich, 43, suffered major injuries in a bicycle accident in San Luis Obispo after a left-turning vehicle struck him. According to a KSBY News report, the injury collision occurred at the intersection of Santa Rosa and Boysen Street the evening of August 14, 2012. Police say Stipicevich was riding his bike southbound on Santa Rosa when a car traveling northbound tried to turn left onto Boysen Street. The driver failed to see Stipicevich and struck him. He was transported to a local hospital with two broken legs. Officials do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in this collision.

Robert Escobar, 55, was injured in an Oxnard car accident, which officials say, involved a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in The Ventura County Star, the major injury bicycle collision occurred on Victoria Avenue the night of July 14, 2012. Officials say Escobar was riding his bike north on Victoria Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle driven by 36-year-old Kris Helms. Escobar was transported to an area hospital where he underwent surgery and remains in critical condition. His daughter, Angela Escobar, says her father is in a coma with broken ribs, a collapsed lung, facial injuries and possible brain damage. Helms has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Gerald Weiss, 52, was fatally injured in a Riverside County car accident when a suspected drunk driver struck his bicycle. According to a news report in The Press Enterprise, the DUI collision occurred at the intersection of Fred Waring Drive and Bryson Court in Indian Wells, the night of June 2, 2012. Officials say a Chrysler Sebring, driven by 24-year-old Christopher Eugene Stocman of La Quinta, struck Weiss from behind. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Stocman was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and many friends of Gerald Weiss following this tragic bicycle accident. They will be in my thoughts and prayers as they grieve the loss of a loved one.
