A woman was killed in a three-car car accident in Tustin after her vehicle hit a truck and spun out onto oncoming traffic before hitting another car. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal crash occurred the night of May 23, 2017. Police say the driver of a Kia Spectra was traveling west along the 17200 block of Nisson Road and collided with a Dodge Ram truck that was stopped in the street waiting for a parking spot. Three people were injured in a car accident in Irvine that involved two vehicles early morning on May 14, 2017. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury collision occurred at the intersection of Warner Avenue and Culver Drive. It took firefighters 25 minutes to extricate a male driver trapped inside one of the cars. He was transported to an area trauma center for treatment of his injuries. His female passenger and the male driver of a second vehicle were also hospitalized with injuries. The nature and extent of their injuries is not known.

Six people were injured, one seriously, in South Los Angles car accident early morning on May 4, 2017. According to a KTLA news report, the crash occurred in the 1800 block of East Vernon Avenue. Police said the collision possibly occurred after a driver ran a red light at an intersection. Six people were injured, including five occupants of one car who were transported to an area hospital. All were listed in critical condition. The sixth person, the driver of the other car, was transported to a local hospital, was listed in stable condition. A 16-year-old girl was reported to be in grave condition. No arrests or citations were reported. The collision is still under investigation.

Six people were injured in a Costa Mesa car accident when four cars crashed at a city street intersection. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury crash occurred the morning of January 29, 2017 at the intersection of Victoria Street and Pomona Avenue. The six victims were transported to three different area hospitals. No one suffered life-threatening injuries. Four of the victims were adults in their 30s and 40s and two were teenagers, officials said. Two declined to be transported to the hospital.

Lisa Shelhorn, 19, was killed and a man was critically injured in a Seal Beach car accident the afternoon of December 9, 2016. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal crash occurred on Westminster Avenue between Seal Beach Boulevard and Bolsa Chica Road. A preliminary investigation shows that a man in a pickup truck driving east on Westminster crossed over the painted center median into oncoming traffic and struck a westbound minivan.
Shelhorn, who was driving the minivan, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Investigators are looking into the possibility that drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision. The investigation is ongoing. Continue reading →
Richard Jeans Jr., 73, was killed in a Huntington Beach car accident after a car struck him in an unmarked crosswalk. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, Jeans was riding his mobility scooter on Beach Boulevard the night of November 19, 2016 at the intersection of Taylor Drive in an unmarked crosswalk when a Mazda Protégé traveling north struck him.
When police arrived, they found Jean critically injured and lying in the roadway next to his scooter. No arrests or citations were reported. Two teen males died and a woman was injured in a two-car accident in West Hills, which officials say, may have involved street-racing. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the incident occurred the evening of November 13, 2014 at the intersection of Vanowen Street and Platt Avenue. Luis Torres, 15, a Santa Ana student, was killed in a car accident on the 57 Freeway early morning on September 4, 2016. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal accident occurred on the freeway just north of the Yorba Linda Boulevard off-ramp. Torres was sitting the back of a 2009 Honda that was stopped on the shoulder of the freeway in Fullerton. A woman driving a 2015 Honda swerved off the freeway lanes and onto the shoulder, striking the 2009 Honda.
Torres was in the left rear seat and died of head injuries. A woman, identified as Jennifer Baca, sitting in the stopped Honda, also suffered fractured ribs and sternum as a result of the crash. Two other people standing outside the stopped car when the crash occurred were not injured. The driver of the 2015 Honda, 28-year-old Nicole Cortinas of Moreno Valley, suffered a broken back, but was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Continue reading →
A 7-year-old girl was killed and her 13-year-old sister was in critical condition after an SUV slammed into a Tesla in the carpool lane on the 405 Freeway in Seal Beach the morning of August 15, 2016. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, a Chevy Tahoe crossed over the double yellow lines near the Seal Beach Boulevard exit on the northbound 405, crossed into the carpool lane and rear-ended the 2015 Tesla. Both girls were riding in the back seat. Their car was pushed into a Honda Civic.
The two girls and their father were transported to an area hospital. The 7-year-old succumbed to her injuries. The 13-year-old girl remains in critical condition while their father is in serious condition. California Highway Patrol officials arrested the driver of the Tahoe, 36-year-old Adam Kanas, on suspicion of driving under the influence.

One person was killed and four others were injured in a car accident in Beverly Hills. According to a Canyon News report, the fatal accident occurred early morning on June 6, 2016 at the intersection of La Brea Avenue and San Vicente Boulevard. LAPD officials said investigators are looking into whether one of the drivers was intoxicated or ran a red light at the intersection. Paramedics transported four people including three men and one woman to area hospitals.
KTLA reported that witnesses saw one vehicle run the red light and broadside an SUV at the intersection. One witness said the driver of the sedan was going at a high rate of speed. There were no skid marks on the roadway indicating that the driver attempted to stop. Officials don’t believe street racing was a factor. The investigation is ongoing.
