A woman died in a Costa Mesa car accident the night of Nov. 18 after the vehicle she was driving was hit by a truck and burst into flames on the 55 Freeway. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the woman was driving her Toyota Corolla on the northbound 55 Freeway north of Mesa Drive. Jessica Ordaz, 29, was killed in a head-on car accident, which officials say, involved a suspected drunk driver who is an elementary school principal in Lancaster. According to a City News Service report, the fatal accident occurred the evening of Nov. 15. California Highway Patrol officials say a 2014 Jeep Wrangler driven by 35-year-old Mary Kruppe was traveling south on 50th Street East, north of Avenue P when she drove into opposing lanes of traffic and collided head-on with a 2010 Mazda 3, killing the driver. Krystil Kincaid, 29, and her unborn child were killed in a car accident in Hemet, which officials say, involved a DUI driver. According to a KTLA news report, Kincaid was driving her Chrysler minivan north on Warren Road the night of Sept. 9 when a BMW heading southbound veered into her lane and struck her vehicle. Officials said the BMW was traveling at a high rate of speed. Officials who responded to the scene found the silver van partially on fire. Enrique Orlando Marquez, 23, was killed in a Costa Mesa car crash, which officials say, was caused by a suspected DUI driver. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the driver, 24-year-old Kimberly Rene Martin, was behind the wheel of a white Volkswagen SUV in the early morning hours of May 1 when her vehicle collided with a red Honda Civic at the intersection of Mesa Drive and Santa Ana Avenue. A 34-year-old man, a 6-year-old girl and an infant were killed in a Los Angeles car accident, which officials said, was caused by a suspected drunk driver. According to a KTLA news report, police have arrested Jose Garcia on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter. Police say the fatal crash occurred the night of April 28 near 744 West 76th Street. They say Garcia was driving a Nissan Xterra speeding north on Hoover Street when he ran a red light and crashed into a Dodge Caravan with five people inside heading west on 76th Street. Frenetta Sartor Miller, 42, was killed in a San Bernardino County car accident, which officials say, involved a man who was driving under the influence of alcohol. According to a KTLA news report, the incident occurred the night of April 14 at the intersection of Highway 395 and Seneca Road at the border of Adelanto and Victorville. The other driver Fernando Pantoja Jr. was heading east on Seneca Road when he failed to halt at the stop sign and broadsided Miller’s blue Nissan. Continue reading →
Three people were injured in a car accident in Tarzana, which officials say, involved a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Times, the crash occurred the afternoon of March 5, 2017 near North Yolanda Avenue and Clark Street. Police said a blue Honda Civic was traveling west on Clark Street at 50 mph in a 25-mph zone. The car struck several parked vehicles and a total of three people including two pedestrians and a woman in her car.
All three victims were transported to a local hospital. One person was listed in critical condition while the other two suffered serious injuries. Police said all three are expected to survive. The driver was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence. As the police escorted the man to a patrol car, he apparently looked at TV cameras recording the accident scene and told them to “Make it go viral.” The driver reportedly refused to submit to tests to determine his blood alcohol concentration.

A police officer who was seriously injured when he was struck by a suspected drunk driver is facing a long road to recovery, The Orange County Register reports. Officer Sharif Muzayen was on a call in a residential area of Orange when a woman suspected of driving under the influence crashed into him as he stood behind his police cruiser. Muzayen suffered severe injuries below the waist and remains in intensive care. Officials say he has a very long road ahead of him.
The driver, 27-year-old Ashley Victoria Bertolino, has been charged with felony counts of driving under influence causing injury. She also faces a charge of driving with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08 percent or more causing bodily injury. Police say Bertolino drifted toward the curb and crashed into the officer. She is accused of having a BAC of 0.13 percent and being under the influence of drugs while going 40 mph in a 25-mph zone.

Prosecutors filed criminal charges against an alleged drunk driver who caused a three-vehicle crash injuring 10 people including a toddler. According to a report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, 26-year-old Robert Anthony Lopez was charged with three counts of fleeing a police officer’s motor vehicle causing serious bodily injury, one count of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury within 10 years of another DUI offense, driving with blood alcohol level of 0.08 percent or higher and driving with a suspended license.
The crash took place the night of July 18, 2016 in the unincorporated community of Valinda in Los Angeles County. California Highway Patrol officers said Lopez was driving an Acura above the speed limit and didn’t stop at a stop sign. Police tried to pull him over, but he didn’t stop and accelerated. As Lopez’s Acura traveled west on Francisquito Avenue, it ran a stop sign and struck a Nissan Maxima traveling north on Walnut Avenue. The Nissan in turn hit a Ford Expedition SUV. The Nissan’s driver was injured along with her two daughters, 7 and 19 months old. The driver and five passengers in the Expedition were also injured.

A man was killed in a horrific hit-and-run crash in Oceanside, which involved a driver who police say was under the influence. According to a news report on NBC San Diego, the crash occurred in the early morning on June 27, 2016 in the 4000 block of Mission Avenue. Witnesses said a man who was walking on the sidewalk was struck by the car, which officials later determined was being driven by 29-year-old Esteysi Sanchez Izazaga.
Police said because of how fast Izazaga was driving, the victim flew into the windshield head down coming to rest on the front passenger seat. The man’s leg detached from his body and flew through the back window landing on the truck of the car. Izazaga continued driving for about a mile. She then parked the vehicle and walked away before officers arrived at the scene. Shortly after she abandoned her car, her boyfriend called the police and reported the incident. She was arrested and charged with felony DUI, hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.
