Couple Killed in Yorba Linda Car Accident

A horrific car accident in Yorba Linda fatally injured 38-year-old Donald Wall and his fiancé 40-year-old Danielle Velazquez. According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, the fatal incident occurred when the pickup truck the couple was traveling in went out of control, flew over a fenced dirt lot and crashed into a home. Three of six people in the home sustained injuries, but none were serious.

Wall’s family is saying that he was never a reckless driver and that it was very uncharacteristic of him to blow though a stop sign. The crash occurred barely a couple of block away from his home and he was quite familiar with the streets. There is also the question of whether there was a mechanical malfunction in the pickup truck that caused Wall to lose control. An investigation is ongoing.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family members of Wall and Velazquez for their tragic loss. We also wish those injured the very best for a quick and full recovery.

Crash Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2013 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were no fatalities but 100 injuries reported as a result of car accidents in the city of Yorba Linda. In Orange County as a whole, 165 people died and 13,837 were injured as  a result of traffic accidents during the same year.

What Caused This Fatal Crash?

Based on this news report, it appears that Wall completely lost control of the pickup truck and crashed. However, there are a number of unanswered questions here. What caused Wall to lose control of the pickup? Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction that caused it to veer off the road? Was Wall unable to stop the vehicle for some reason? Did the pickup suddenly accelerate? Was any other vehicle involved in the crash? These are just a few questions that must be asked and answered in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

Liability Issues

If an auto defect caused this crash, the family of the deceased victims may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the automaker seeking compensation for funeral costs, lost future income and loss of love and companionship. In such cases, it is important to preserve the vehicle in its current crashed condition so an expert can examine it for defects, malfunctions and design flaws. An experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer can help victims and their families in such cases better understand their legal rights and options.
