Eight Injured in Long Beach Car Accident

Eight people were injured, one critically, in a Long Beach car accident, which officials say involved four vehicles. According to a news report in The Press-Telegram, the major injury collision occurred near the intersection of Cherry Avenue and Spring Street, the afternoon of March 25, 2012. A female driver traveling east on Spring Street collided with three other vehicles traveling west. The location of the accident was at the border of Long Beach and Signal Hill. One woman was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Seven others were taken to area hospitals with minor to moderate injuries. Officials are still investigating the cause of this collision.

My thoughts and prayers are with the many injured victims of this car accident. I wish them the very best for a quick and full recovery.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 28 fatalities and 1,629 injuries involving Long Beach car accidents. During the same year, 554 people died and 50,817 were injured due to Los Angeles County car accidents.

What Caused This Crash?

Based on this news article, it appears that the eastbound vehicle collided with another vehicle that was westbound. Did one of the drivers cross over into opposing lanes of traffic? Did one of the drivers make an unsafe or illegal turn? Did intoxication, speed, distracted driving, fatigue or some other form of negligence cause or contribute to this accident? Who was at fault? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

Liability Issues

In such cases, the at-fault motorist can be held liable for the injuries and damages caused to victims. Injured victims can seek compensation to cover damages including medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering, and emotional distress. Injured victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Long Beach personal injury lawyer who will stay abreast of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. In multi-vehicle collisions, where several vehicles and victims are involved, it is important not to speak with insurance adjusters or attorneys for other parties before talking to your own injury lawyer. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to car accident victims and their families.
