A male pedestrian was killed in a Riverside car accident, which officials said, involved a hit-and-run driver.
According to a news report in The Press Enterprise, police say the incident occurred on Alessandro Boulevard west of Meridian Way in Riverside evening of July 15, 2015.
The man was walking along the west side of Alessandro Boulevard when a brown, older SUV driven by “a subject with dark, curly hair” was traveling in the far right lane.
The car drifted toward the pedestrian and struck him, police said.
The vehicle continued on Alessandro without stopping. When emergency personnel arrived, the man was lying off the roadway.
Despite their efforts, the man died at the scene. When police canvassed the area, they found a brown 1997 Toyota 4Runner not far from the scene.
The vehicle had major front-end damage consistent with the collision. But the driver remains at large.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Riverside police at 951-826-8723.

Riverside Pedestrian Accidents
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2012 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were five fatalities and 78 injuries due to pedestrian accidents in the city of Riverside.
Countywide, 45 people died and 373 were injured due to pedestrian accidents during the same year.
Leaving the Scene of a Crash
Based on this news report, it appears that the driver veered into the pedestrian, struck and fatally injured him, and then took off without even stopping to assist or render aid to the victim. Despicable!
Under California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a), it is against the law for motorists to leave the scene of an injury collision.
Motorists must not only wait for authorities to arrive, but they must also exchange information with other parties involved and most importantly help the injured. This could be something as simple as calling 911.
The aid victims get soon after the incident could make the difference between life and death.
We certainly hope officials are able to apprehend this hit-and-run driver. If you have any information at all, please visit our dedicated Hit-and-Run Reward website at hitandrunreward.com to offer an anonymous tip and to become eligible for a $1,000 reward.
Compensation for Victims and Families
If you have lost a loved one in a hit-and-run crash, you may be wondering how to pay for medical expenses or funeral and burial costs. When the hit-and-run driver has not been apprehended, it could make matters even worse.
A knowledgeable Riverside personal injury lawyer can advise you about how your own auto insurance policy might apply to a hit-and-run crash or in a car accident case where the driver is uninsured or underinsured.
