The Danger of Rollover Crashes

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), rollovers are dangerous incidents that have a higher fatality rate than other types of crashes. Of the nearly 9.1 million passenger car, SUV, pickup and van crashes in 2010, only 2.1 percent involved a rollover. However, rollovers accounted for nearly 35 percent of all deaths from passenger vehicle crashes. In 2010 alone, more than 7,600 people died in rollover crashes.

What Caused This Fatal Crash

Based on this news report, it is unclear as to what caused this horrific crash. There are a number of unanswered questions here. What caused the driver of the car to veer right? Was he or she under the influence, distracted or speeding? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway? Did another driver run this vehicle off the roadway? Did a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction cause or contribute to the accident? We trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred and why.

In such cases, it is important to preserve the vehicle so it can be thoroughly examined by an expert for evidence of defects, malfunctions and design flaws. If the accident was caused by an auto defect, the manufacturer of the vehicle or the defective party can be held liable for the injuries, damages and losses caused. Victims or their families would be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer who has a successful track record with auto product liability cases.
