Federal Judge Stephen Reinhardt was injured in a Los Angeles car accident, which police say, involved a motorist running a red light. According to a news report in The Daily Breeze, the injury car accident occurred near the intersection of Washington Place and Inglewood Boulevard in Mar Vista the night of March 28, 2011. Reinhardt was traveling westbound when a southbound motorist ran a red light at the intersection and struck the judge’s vehicle. Reinhardt suffered a knee injury. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured. It is not known if the other driver will be cited.
My thoughts and prayers are with Judge Stephen Reinhardt following this car accident. I truly hope his injuries were not serious and wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Red Light Violation
If the details of this news report are accurate, it appears that the other driver ran a red light at the intersection. It is a serious traffic violation under California law to bypass a red light at a street intersection. California Vehicle Code Section 21453 (a) states: “A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown.”
In such cases, the at-fault driver could be held liable for injuries, damages and losses caused. Injured victims can seek compensation from the at-fault motorist for medical expenses, loss of earnings, cost of physical therapy or any other treatment required for recovery. Car accident victims would be well-advised to seek the counsel of an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and make sure that the negligent parties are held liable.
