Four Women Injured in Tustin Car Accident

Four women were injured, one critically, in a Tustin car accident, which officials say involved three vehicles. According to The Orange County Register, the injury crash occurred at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Irvine Boulevard, the afternoon of May 29, 2012. Officials say the crash involved a Ford Mustang, a Ford Festiva and a Chevrolet Tahoe. The driver of the Mustang, a woman, was transported to an area trauma center in critical condition. The driver of the Festiva also suffered traumatic injuries, but that person’s condition is not known. Two women in the Tahoe sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The crash is under investigation.

My thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this car accident. I wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), three fatalities and 367 injuries occurred involving Tustin car accidents. During the same year, Orange County car accidents caused 141 fatalities and injured 13,373 people.

Laws and Liability Issues

Based on this news report, it is not clear how or why the collision occurred. It appears that this crash occurred at a street intersection that is monitored by traffic lights. It is unclear if one of the drivers failed to yield the right-of-way or ran a red light at the intersection. According to California Vehicle Code Section 21800 (a): “The driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from a different highway.”

California Vehicle Code Section 21453 (a) states: “A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown.”

In such cases, the at-fault motorist can be held liable for the injuries and damages caused. Injured victims can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, lost wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. Car accident victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Tustin car accident lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable.
