Fresno Car Accident Causes Major Injuries

A 28-year-old woman and a 4-year girl suffered serious injuries in a Fresno area car accident involving a blown tire and a head-on collision. According to a news report in The Fresno Bee, the serious injury accident occurred on Highway 41, near Coarsegold, the afternoon of June 22, 2011. A 53-year-old man was driving his Ford truck when the front tire blew out and his vehicle veered out of control. The truck then crashed head-on into a car driven the woman. The woman and the girl suffered major injuries. A baby in the car was not hurt, while the driver of the truck sustained minor injuries. An investigation is ongoing.

My thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this Madera County car crash. I wish them all a complete and speedy recovery.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 21 people were killed and 464 were injured in car accidents in the unincorporated areas of Madera County. During that same year, 32 fatalities and 626 injuries occurred as a result of Madera County car accidents.

What Caused This Serious Injury Accident?

It appears from the report that the driver of the truck lost control when his front tire blew. However, there are a number of questions that remain at this time. Was the tire defective? Was the tire poorly maintained? Was the driver aware of the condition of his tires and failed to replace them? Was the driver speeding, distracted or otherwise negligent? I trust investigators are in the process of looking into these and other issues in order to determine what occurred here and why.

Liability Issues

If a defective tire caused this accident, the manufacturer of the tire can be held liable for the resulting injuries and damages. If the driver of the truck is determined to have been at fault, then, he could also be held liable. Injured victims of California car accidents may pursue financial compensation for their losses by filing a personal injury claim against the at-fault party. Victims can seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation, and other related damages. An experienced Fresno personal injury lawyer will be able to better advise victims and their families in such cases about their legal rights and options.
