Paul Tetu was injured in a Los Angeles car accident, which officials say involved a hit-and-run driver, the evening of January 9, 2012. According to a news report in The Monrovia Patch, the injury crash occurred near the intersection of Violet Avenue and Foothill Boulevard in Monrovia. The report states Tetu was struck from behind by the vehicle and hit his head. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver left the scene of the crash, but was located and being interviewed by police. The driver, who has not yet been identified, is expected to be charged. A friend of the victim said Tetu is “pretty banged up.” He said Tetu “hit his head and doesn’t remember anything.”
My thoughts and prayers are with Paul Tetu, the victim of this hit-and-run car accident, who has apparently suffered head injuries. I wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.
Bicycle Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were no fatalities, but eight injuries reported as a result of bicycle accidents in Monrovia. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 22 people died and 3,725 were injured due to bicycle accidents, during the same year.
Leaving the Scene of a Crash
Based on this news report, not only did the driver strike and injure the bicyclist, but also left him lying on the roadway without care or medical attention. In addition to being an unconscionable act, leaving the scene of a car accident is against California law. California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.” I’m relieved to note that the suspect in this case has been apprehended.
In cases where negligence is involved, it would be in the victims’ best interests to seek the counsel of an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable. Injured victims can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, lost wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. A skilled car accident lawyer will also advise victims about how their own auto insurance policy applies to an incident where the at-fault motorist is uninsured or underinsured.
