Woman Injured in Orange County Car Accident

A pregnant woman was injured in an Orange County car accident after the vehicle she was driving crashed into another car at an intersection. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury car accident occurred at the intersection of Manassero Street and La Palma Avenue in Anaheim the morning of November 22, 2010. A Mazda RX-8 and Toyota 4Runner SUV collided at the intersection. The 4Runner then struck and knocked down a pole. A pregnant woman who was driving the 4Runner was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. An investigation is ongoing.

I sincerely hope the woman was not harmed as a result of this car accident. I wish her the very best for a prompt and complete recovery. Please keep this injured victim in your thoughts and prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 21 fatalities and 2,018 injuries involving car accidents in Anaheim. In Orange County as a whole, 152 people were killed and 13,414 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same year.

Right-of-Way Issues

Based on this news report, it is not quite clear how or why this injury car accident occurred. There are still several unanswered questions here. Who was at fault for the accident? Did one of the drivers fail to yield right-of-way? This intersection is apparently controlled by traffic lights. Did one of the drivers run a red light at the intersection? Was either one of the drivers impaired, distracted, speeding or otherwise negligent? I trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine what occurred here and why.

California Vehicle Code Section 21453 (a) states: “A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown.”

Claim for Compensation

In such cases, the at-fault driver could be held liable for the injuries and damages caused to injured victims. Compensation can be claimed for medical expenses, loss of earnings, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. Injured car accident victims would be well-advised to contact an experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held accountable.
