Los Angeles Car Accident Causes Fatal Injuries

Salvador Hernandez, 62, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after the taxi cab in which he was a passenger struck a parked vehicle in South El Monte. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the fatal car accident occurred in the 9500 block of Garvey Avenue the night of January 31, 2010 when the cab hit a parked Toyota Tundra. The cab driver was hospitalized with injuries he suffered as a result of airbag deployment. Hernandez suffered trauma to his heart. He was transported to a hospital where he died about an hour after the car accident.

I offer my heartfelt condolences to everyone who knew and loved Salvador Hernandez for their tragic and sudden loss. His grieving family will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.

Car Accidents

There were nine fatalities and 527 injuries involving car accidents in El Monte, according to California Highway Patrol’s 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). In Los Angeles County, 712 deaths and 56,475 injuries were reported in 2007 as a result of car accidents.

Causes and Liability Issues

I trust officials are looking into what may have caused the cab driver to strike the parked vehicle. There are several questions that arise in such a situation. Was the cab driver under the influence at the time? Was he distracted, fatigued or falling asleep at the wheel? Was he going too fast, which made him unable to control the vehicle? Was there another vehicle involved in this accident? Did mechanical failure or an auto product defect caused this fatal crash?

If this accident is the taxi driver’s fault, then Hernandez’s family can seek compensation by filing a wrongful death claim against the driver and/or the taxicab company. If this accident was the result of a vehicle defect, Hernandez’s family and the injured cab driver can file an auto products liability claim against the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective product.

In such cases, victims and their families would be well-advised to get in touch with a reputed Los Angeles car accident lawyer, who will analyze all facets of the incident and help determine whether there was any negligence or wrongdoing. If there was, then the responsible parties must be held accountable.
