Charles Agapinaan, 59, was killed in a Los Angeles motorcycle accident after his cycle was hit by a tractor-trailer the morning of January 21, 2011. According to a news report in the Whittier Daily News, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred on Bloomfield Avenue near Telegraph Road in Santa Fe Springs. Police say the motorcycle and large truck were traveling north in the second lane of Bloomfield Avenue. The tractor-trailer turned into a driveway. The motorcyclist could not stop in time and crashed into the tractor trailer.
I offer my deepest condolences to everyone who knew and loved Charles Agapinaan for their tremendous loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Motorcycle Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), one fatality and 23 injuries were reported due to motorcycle accidents in Santa Fe Springs. What Caused This Fatal Accident?
It is not entirely clear from this report who was at fault for this truck accident that occurred as a result of the tractor-trailer making the turn into the driveway. There are several questions here. Did the tractor-trailer make a sudden turn? How fast was the motorcyclist going at the time? Did the truck driver have the turn lights on or give the motorcyclist some indication that the truck was about to turn? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in this case. If this accident occurred due to the carelessness or inattention of the truck driver, both, the driver and the trucking company may be held liable for the motorcyclist’s wrongful death.
