Los Angeles Public Transit Bus Accident Injures Six

Six people were injured in a Los Angeles bus accident the afternoon of March 1, 2009 after a vehicle and a DASH bus operated by the Los Angeles Department of Transportation collided in the Westlake area, CBS News reports. The bus versus car crash occurred in the 1900 block of West Wilshire Boulevard. Thankfully, no one suffered serious injuries. The six bus passengers who complained of apparently minor injuries were treated and released. There is no word on whether the driver or passengers in the car were injured.

I’m relieved that no one was seriously hurt in this Los Angeles auto accident. I wish the injured bus passengers the very best for a quick and complete recovery.

The most recent fatal Los Angeles bus accident involving a DASH bus occurred Jan. 8 when 58-year-old Gwendolyn Cole of Burbank was struck and killed by one of these buses when she was walking across a street in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of 5th and Flower streets.

Based on this news report, it is unclear which vehicle was at fault for the accident. It is also not clear from the article whether the occupants of the other vehicle that was involved in the collision suffered any injuries. In any bus accident, the bus company – whether private or public – owes the “utmost duty of care” to its passengers. This standard of utmost care is higher than the negligence duty owed by the bus company, say, to drivers of other vehicles or pedestrians. A public bus, school bus or a chartered bus owes its passengers the duty of utmost care to ensure that they are in the safest possible situation – from the time they get on that bus until they reach their destination.

Whether you were a passenger in a bus that was involved in an accident, the occupant of another vehicle or a pedestrian hit by a bus, it would be in your best interest to contact an experienced California bus accident attorney to find out more about your legal rights and options. If the bus accident occurred as a result of driver negligence, recklessness, error or the bus company’s failure to maintain the vehicle, then the driver and his or her employer could be held liable for the accident and injuries.
