Man Killed in Los Angeles Car Accident

Jose Esquivel, 50, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident the morning of October 15, 2009 after his pickup truck crashed into a light pole. According to a report in the Pasadena Star News, the fatal accident occurred on Huntington Drive at Sunnyslope Avenue near San Gabriel Boulevard in the San Marino area. California Highway Patrol officials said Esquivel’s Ford F-150 pickup truck veered to the right and struck a metal traffic signal pole. Officials have not yet determined what caused the pickup truck to go out of control. A 29-year-old passenger in the truck was taken to an area hospital with moderate injuries.

I offer my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Jose Esquivel. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved this man. I also hope and pray that the injured passenger makes a quick and complete recovery.

Los Angeles Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were no fatalities, but 36 injuries involving car accidents in San Marino, California. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 712 fatalities and 56,475 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in 2007.

Based on this news report, it is not clear how or why the pickup veered out of control. There is no mention in this article of whether Esquivel was under the influence, distracted or fatigued at the time of the crash. Based on the information we have here, it seems to me that something went horribly wrong with his Ford F-150 pickup truck. It is possible that there may have been a
vehicle defect or a mechanical malfunction in the truck that caused the accident. There may have also been a dangerous condition on the roadway, which caused or contributed to this fatal car accident.

Car Accident Liability Issues

In any fatal or serious injury car accident case, it is extremely important to look into all aspects to rule out the possibility of negligence or wrongdoing. If an auto product defect caused the accident, the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective product could be held liable. If a defective roadway condition caused the crash, the governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway could be held accountable. If the negligence of another driver caused the accident, then that driver could be held liable for the crash and resulting injuries. Victims and their families would be well-advised to consult with an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will be able to determine whether there was negligence or wrongdoing involved. If that was the case, a skilled car accident lawyer will fight for the rights of the injured victims and their families and make sure they get fair compensation for their injuries and loss.
