Man Killed in San Bernardino Car Accident

Victor John Partnoff, 20, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident the night of September 1, 2009 after he crashed his car into the back of a parked big rig on the 10 Freeway in Redlands, California. According to a news report in The Press Enterprise, Partnoff was driving a 2008 Ford Fusion near Wabash Avenue when the collision occurred. San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department officials say Partnoff was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. The 18-wheeler was apparently stopped along the right shoulder of the traffic lanes because of mechanical problems, California Highway Patrol officials said.

I offer my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Victor John Partnoff for their untimely and tragic loss. Please keep them in your prayers.

San Bernardino Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were six fatalities and 570 injuries reported as a result of car accidents in Redlands, California. In San Bernardino County as a whole, 308 deaths and 9,920 injuries happened in 2007 involving car accidents. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s statistics, there were 361 fatal accidents involving large trucks in California in 2007 and 10,635 injury accidents involving commercial trucks during that same time. California ranks highest among states for the most number of fatal and major injury truck accidents.

Based on this newspaper report, there are several aspects of this truck accident that require further investigation. I trust CHP officials will examine all the factors in this case to provide the cause of the crash . Here are a few questions that jump out right away. Was the big rig parked there illegally? Was there a reason Partnoff did not see the big rig parked there? Was Partnoff not buckled up or was there a seat restraint system failure?

Truck Accident Liability Issues

If investigators determine that the truck was illegally parked, the driver and the trucking company could be held liable. Bisnar Chase Personal Injury Attorneys has represented clients who have been victims of illegally parked commercial trucks. A little over a year ago, we successfully settled for a client, whose wife died in a California car accident where the driver lost control of the car and hit a big rig that was illegally parked on the side of the freeway.

Partnoff’s family should consider retaining the services of a reputed California personal injury lawyer with an excellent track record in handling accident cases involving illegally parked big rigs. Trucking companies are extremely quick to get their lawyers and insurance companies on these cases to protect their interests. In such cases, victims and their families definitely need someone on their side, who will fight for their rights and protect their interests.
