Major Injuries in Murrieta Car Accident

A car accident in Murrieta that police say was caused by a driver who crossed over the double yellow lines and collided with another vehicle, seriously injured three people, the Southwest Riverside News Network reports. The injury collision occurred the afternoon of May 8, 2010, when a Toyota Sienna van bearing a male driver and his 8-year-old daughter, and traveling west on Clinton Keith Road, crossed over into opposing traffic lanes and struck a Mitsubishi Endeavor. All three people, the two occupants of the Toyota and the driver of the Mitsubishi sustained serious injuries in this crash.

I sympathize with the victims in this case. I hope no one has suffered any catastrophic injuries. I hope and pray that all victims recover quickly and completely.

Riverside Car Accident Statistics

There were 220 fatalities and 8,561 injuries involving car accidents in Riverside County in 2008, according to California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). In Murrieta, car accidents caused one fatality and 334 injuries during the same year.

Causes and Liability Issues

This news report does not offer much information about how or why this fatal car accident occurred. Officials say they believe the driver of the Toyota must have either fallen asleep or somehow blacked out at the time. But it is not clear whether he was fatigued or whether he suffered a medical condition at the time, which caused him to lose control of the minivan. If I were a family member of the injured victim, I would want to find out whether the driver of the van was under the influence, distracted or otherwise negligent.

In this particular case, if the driver of the minivan was at fault, he could be held liable for the injuries caused to the Mitsubishi’s driver. Injured victims in such cases would be well-advised to contact a reputed Riverside personal injury lawyer, who will advise them about their legal rights and options.
