Orange County Car Accident Causes Injuries

At least two people were injured in an Orange County car accident involving multiple vehicles the night of February 14, 2011. The Orange County Register reports that the injury car accident occurred at the intersection of La Palma Avenue and North Euclid Street in Anaheim. One person had to be extricated from a vehicle and at least two people were hospitalized with unknown injuries. The number of vehicles involved and the cause of the accident are unknown at this time. An investigation is underway.

My thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this Anaheim car accident. I wish them all a complete and speedy recovery from their injuries.

Orange County Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 21 people were killed and 2,018 were injured in Anaheim car accidents. During that same year, there were 152 fatalities and 13,414 injuries reported due to car accidents in Orange County.

What Caused This Injury Accident?

It is unclear from this report how and why this accident occurred. The busy intersection where this accident occurred is monitored by traffic lights. Investigators will have to determine if one of the drivers violated California Vehicle Code Section 21453 by running a red light. It is possible in this case that one of the drivers was speeding, distracted or under the influence of alcohol. I trust officials are also looking into whether one of the drivers failed to yield right-of-way.

According to California Vehicle Code Section 21800 (a): “The driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from a different highway.”

Liability Issues

In such cases, the at-fault motorist can be held liable for injuries, damages and losses caused. Injured victims can seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. Car accident victims would also be well-advised to seek the counsel of an experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable.

In any car accident involving multiple vehicles, it would be in victims’ best interests to refrain from talking to insurance adjusters and attorneys for the other parties or entering into quick settlements. Such actions could be detrimental to their personal injury claim. It would be beneficial for a victim to first consult with a knowledgeable injury lawyer who will work to protect their legal rights and determine the best course of action in the case.
