Orange County Car Accident Injures Two

Two people were injured in an Orange County car accident involving two vehicles at a street intersection the morning of October 13, 2010. The Orange County Register reports the injury car accident occurred at the intersection of Orangewood Avenue and 9th Street in Anaheim when a Hyundai sedan broadsided a Ford Aerostar van. The van continued 50 yards on Orangewood, beyond the point of impact, before coming to a stop near Gail lane. Emergency personnel had to remove the driver’s side of the van door to extricate the injured driver.

My thoughts and prayers are with the two people injured in this Anaheim car accident. I wish them both a speedy and complete recovery.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 21 people were killed and 2,018 were injured in Anaheim car accidents. In Orange County as a whole, 152 fatalities and 13,414 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents during the same year.

What Caused This Street Intersection Car Accident?

It is not clear from the report what may have caused this injury accident. The intersection of Orangewood Avenue and 9th Street in Anaheim is regulated by traffic lights. So, it is possible that one of the drivers may have failed to obey a traffic signal. California Vehicle Code Section 21453 (a) states: “A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown.”

Liability Issues

If it is determined that one of the drivers ran a red light, he or she may be held liable for the car accident.
