Marta Barnard, 86 and Douglas Robert McFarland, 25, were killed in an Orange County car accident after the vehicles they were in collided. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal car accident occurred the night of October 11, 2010 on the 91 Freeway in Anaheim.
A BMW 325Ci, disabled from a previous accident, was stopped in the westbound carpool lane of the freeway near Brookhurst Street, when a Nissan Murano crashed into it. McFarland, the driver of the BMW and Barnard, who was a passenger in the Nissan, were killed. The driver of the Nissan SUV and another passenger in the vehicle sustained major injuries. No arrests have been made pending an official investigation.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Marta Barnard and Robert McFarland for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. My thoughts and prayers are also with the survivors of this car accident as they heal from their serious injuries.
Car Accident Statistics

What Caused This Tragic Accident?
The families of the fatally injured victims of this car accident are probably left with many questions. What caused the BMW to crash in the first place? Why was the Nissan unable to avoid the car accident? Was speeding or reckless driving to blame for either car accident? Were any of the drivers here impaired, driving distracted or otherwise negligent at the time? I trust investigators are looking into these and other issues in order to determine what exactly occurred and why.
In cases where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, the family of a deceased car accident victim can file a wrongful death claim seeking medical and funeral expenses, lost future income, loss of love and companionship, and other related damages.
