Orange County Car Accident Leaves Woman Injured

A 50-year-old woman sustained injuries in an Orange County car accident the afternoon of November 18, 2009 after a vehicle crashed into her living room. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, a 22-year-old man failed to negotiate a curve and crashed the car into the woman’s home located in the 5700 block of Warwick Circle in La Palma, California. Police said the woman was taken to an area hospital for treatment of her injuries. It’s not clear how badly she was injured in this accident.

My heart goes out to this injured woman. I can only imagine the shock and fear she must have felt when the vehicle tore through her living room. I hope did not suffer any life threatening injures in this accident. She will certainly be in my prayers.

Orange County Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 63 people were injured in La Palma as a result of serious car accidents in 2007. In Orange County as a whole, 178 fatalities and 14,185 injuries were reported in 2007 due to car accidents.

Based on this news report, it is not quite clear how and why this car accident occurred. Here are a few important questions that still need to be answered. How fast was the young driver going at the time of the crash? How and why did he lose control of his car? Was he under the influence of alcohol or drugs? Was he distracted at the time of the crash? Was he driving recklessly? Was there a malfunction in his vehicle that caused him to lose control and crash? Did a dangerous condition on the roadway lead to this accident? It seems to me, based on this report, the driver was traveling too fast to be able to negotiate the curve. If these details are accurate, then the young driver can be held liable for the injuries and damages caused.
