Orange County DUI Collision Causes Injuries

Two ambulance drivers and two paramedics were injured in an Orange County car accident, which police believe, was caused by a drunk driver. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury car accident occurred near the intersection of Bolsa Chica Street and Tasman Drive in Huntington Beach the afternoon of November 5, 2010. The ambulance was turning onto Bolsa Chica when the driver’s side was struck by a Toyota pickup. Four people sustained injuries that were described as not life-threatening. The pickup driver, 36-year-old Tristan Johnson, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

My thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this car accident. I wish them all a complete and speedy recovery from their injuries.

DUI Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), six people were killed and 122 were injured in Huntington Beach DUI collisions. During that same year, 62 fatalities and 1,492 injuries were reported as a result of alcohol-related car accidents in Orange County.

What Caused This Injury Car Accident?

Police say the driver of the pickup, Johnson, was driving under the influence of alcohol. According to California Vehicle Code Section 23152 (a): “It is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle.” It appears that Johnson may have also failed to yield right-of-way to the emergency vehicle at the street intersection.
